Bridge to Far September 13th

Postby Wkeyser » Thu 20 Jul, 2017 10:54

Hi Guys
Well I think we all like the Great Battles of WWII divisonal rules, so after we finish the second run thru of the Falaise battle I am going to run Market Garden in Sept. First game will be Sept 13th, I would like to play the 16th and 17th of September but that depends on you guys.

The way the game evolves is that the the first game will be with the Screaming Eagles taking and holding the bridges at Eindhoven, the 30th Corps will drive up the road and when it gets to the end of the bable towards Nijmegen the first battle is over. During the game the germans can move troops from Eindhoven towards Nijmegen or even all the way up to Arnhem. But troops on the Eindhoven table that are left are lost to the German.

Next game will be Nijmegan where the 82nd Airborne will take and hold the bridges around Nijmegan, the battle will start on 17th Sept but the game on the Nijmegan table will go on and the 30th Corps will enter the table the day after they leave the Eindhoven table, so the longer the germans delay 30th Corps the longer the germans have to defeat the 82nd.

Then Arnhem where we all know what happens, the British fuck up the whole thing!!!!!

Hi Guys
Well looking at the forces I think we can have one - two US players, 3 British 30 Corps, and 2-3 German players.

I am taking the US paras, go ahead check my passport!!!!!

So Michael is German, Jens Glad ???

Right now I will take requests on what people want to play but I might change my mind and we will just roll to see who is who one day one.

We talked about tigers in arnhem in the obs for the battle, and I found this info on the web. There are some great small unit accounts on the site if you poke around a little.

Just posted some book recommendations in the Falaise battles, I thought I would do the same here.

First is a really good book on the American side you know the guys who took thier objectives!!!!!! A good read and some intresting details on the US operations.

Image

The classic as far as the ones I have read is this one It never Snows in September, a great book with all the detail a wargamer would want. Except it focus is on the German troops, with most of the focus on Arnhem. It does cover some of the US and XXX corps.

Hi Jens
That is a good find. I like the comments of the allied air cover.

"Lively enemy fighter-bomber activity with overlapping carpet bombing."

Well i guess you can call it lively.

Hi Guys sorry to say but we will push this back a week, as Stephan has not finished painting the trucks, some lame excuse about work. But we will play anohter day of Falaise and see if the allieds can push thru to Falaise.

William

I have not finished my trucks either but that I have a real reason for that.
